Anticipation Party Reminder

The official Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD 2011 bid party has been confirmed for Thursday August 6th (a little over week away) at the Delta Centre-ville hotel.  We are confirmed for Room 2815 (one of the largest suites) and will go from about 9 PM-2 AM.  We are bringing a Chocolate Fountain and Clipper City Beer (very good local Microbrew in very limited quantities) to the party.  We look forward to meeting people and talking more about the Bid.

At Con Site Selection

For those who will be at the convention, please stop by Site Selection in the Palais to vote for us.  Site Selection is open from 10 AM to 6 PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  They will close promptly at 6 PM (especially on Saturday because they need to count the votes).  Make sure to put Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD in 2011 as your first choice on the 2011 Worldcon ballot.   If you don't put us first (let's say that you put No Preference as your first), your vote for Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD will not get counted. Please remember this when you fill your ballot out.  Even if we don't win, you are an active voice in the 2011 Hugo Awards, 2013 Worldcon Site Selection and receive all publications of the winning bid.  Thanks for your vote ahead of time.

Balticon party Update and a transcontinental note

First of all, the Balticon Party was a great success.  Thanks for those who made it a great evening.  We had over a 100 people attending the party, but are looking for pictures.  We were unable to get pictures of that evening.  We had tons of people exciting and talking about everything from the Bid to past hoaxes to space theory.  There are things that you will see from that party in Montreal.

Also, our shirts and flyers traveled to Baycon (over Memorial Day weekend in San Francisco courtesy of [info]kevin_standlee who got flyers and one of our limited run shirts.  A picture of Kevin in the bid shirt is at tinyurl.com/rcwj9p.  He also brought our first flyer to Baycon and basically ran out.  If you want flyers for your convention, please contact Tom Stidman at tstidman at verizon dot net

Logo and mascot announced for APG 2011
[info]redneckotaku
The Aberdeen Proving Ground 2011 bid committee has chosen a logo and a mascot courtesy of Cathye Knapp. The logo is named Relaunching the Future and can be seen here: http://s68.photobucket.com/albums/i11/tstidm/?action=view¤t=RELAUNCHINGTHEFUTURE.jpg. The logo matches the themes of the Military in Science Fiction with a whimsical view on the theme.

The committee has also chosen a logo. The logo is called the Smof Tank and can be seen at
http://s56.photobucket.com/albums/g171/knabria/Aberdeen%20in%202011/?action=view¤t=SMOFTANKresize640x471.jpg The logo is a whimsical salute to Smofdom (the fans who make cons happen). Expect to see these logos on Flyers and prominently at Balticon and Worldcon.

Have a Blast at APG!

APG 2011 Bid Announcement
[info]redneckotaku
It is time to make a big announcement.  Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD wants to host the first outdoor science fiction  worldcon and the first one ever on a Military base.  To make our case to the Worldcon nation, we are hosting two bid parties.  The first one on Memorial Day weekend at Balticon in Baltimore, MD and at Worldcon in Montreal.  The committee could think of no better way to start a bid than on a weekend when we should be remembering our military.

Why Worldcon on a Military Base

1. The First Outdoor Worldcon-There are no finer facilities in the world than the out of doors to host a Worldcon.
2. The first Worldcon at a Military Base-There are square miles of space to the place, so people can experience a dealers room that is massive.  Not even San Diego Convention Center hold all the fun of a Worldcon on a Military Base can.
3. If Washington fen can do it, then why can't Baltimore fen-Washington hosts Hoax Worldcon bids for the past. We are going to have some hoax bid fun, but do it for the future.
4.The Main Event competitors will glow-With all the spent munitions, we won't need to have lighting for the Masquerade and Hugos.
5. To Celebrate the Military's Contributions to Science Fiction-From the Incredible Hulk to Starship Troopers, the Military has done much to fuel the dreams of men.  Why not have a Worldcon that celebrates it.
6. APG is ineligible anyway-Aberdeen Proving Ground is in the 800 KM limit from Montreal, so we can't host Worldcon even if I wanted to.

How can people help with the bid

1. Put Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD as your number one on the 2011 Site Selection ballot.  Putting it number two means that None of the Above is closer to being second. www.anticipationsf.ca/English/SiteSelection is the link to where you can get the 2011 Site Selection Ballot.

2. If Individual members want to give money, there are a few pre-supporting options for you:

$10 Sergeant First Class of the bid
$20 First Lieutenant of the bid
$25 Peace Protester (Pre-Oppose) of the bid
$50 4 Star General of the bid

They are the same in Canadian dollars or American Dollars.  I would rather take money and checks at parties, but if you can't be at either one let me know at tstidman at verizon dot net and we can work it out.

3. People who can help at Balticon bid party and Anticipation bid party.  People who can do nice flyers. Person who can help me get to shopping for Party supplies at Balticon and Anticipation. I have people working on a logo right now. People who are interested in putting together an official website.  If interested in anyway, pleast contact me at tstidman at verizon dot net.

Go Aberdeen Proving Ground, beat None of the Above.
